Origone and Tidstrand claim Speed Skiing World Cup titles
The finals of the FIS Speed Skiing World Cup 2007/08 season were held last week in Verbier (SUI).

Speed Skiing season begins in Vars (FRA)
The FIS Speed Skiing World Cup will kick off in Vars (FRA) this weekend, from 30th January – 3rd February 2008. Vars will also host the FIS Speed Skiing World Championships in 2009, just a few days before the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Val d’Isère.

2005 Speed Ski Championships cancelled
Regretfully due to knee deep elephant snot on the glacier, and insufficient snow cover on Race Line, conditions were not suitable this year to hold a race at Turoa. We regret not being able to hold any races in New Zealand due to the snow condition this year. We would like to thank our sponsors; Helly Hanson, snow.co.nz, Pukenui Lodge, MST & American Crew.

2005 Speed Ski Championships postponed
Due to long term weather forecasts and the condition of the snow at Turoa we have been forced to postpone the event to now run from Monday the 17th - Friday 21st October. We also have the luxury of further bad weather days during the following week 24th - 28th. Racer meeting and briefing will now occur at MST, 76 Clyde St, Ohakune at 6:00pm on Sunday 16th October.

2005 Speed Ski Championships to be Held at Turoa
Turoa will host the 2005 Speed Ski Nationals on the Mangehuehu Glacier course from October 10th - 14th. This track is outside the ski area boundary so cannot be groomed due to Department of Conservation rules but still offers huge potential once correctly foot packed.

Chris Gebbie becomes first person in the Southern Hemisphere to exceed 230km/hr.
Chris Gebbie recorded a speed of 232.860km/hr on the final day of the Mondial 2005 Pro Championships at Les Arc, France.

Is on, the dates we currently are aiming for are Wed 6th - Friday 8th. The weather prediction is for mixed weather on Wednesday and fine Thursday, perhaps with some luck Friday will clear as well.

There is now just 2 weeks to go until the 2004 New Zealand Speedski Championships. The Mangaehuehu Glacier Speed Track is looking the best that it has looked in 12 years.

Speed Ski New Zealand Confirms National Event for 2004.
The speed track run on the Mangaehuehu Glacier is steeper than ever after last years massive avalanche remodeled the run. The national championships are confirmed to run on the 6th to the 10th of October.

Speed skiers achieve fastest speeds recorded in New Zealand for the last 11 years.
Competitors conquered the on-piste backup track at Turoa in this years National Championships due to huge avalanche destroying the Speed Track on the Mangaehuehu Glacier the week before the competition.

The fastest non-motorised sport in the world will again see the slopes this year at Turoa Ski Area in October and Chris Gebbie will be there to defend his national title.

New Zealand Speed Skier takes on World's Best and joins 200K Club.
Chris Gebbie completed a successful northern hemisphere winter season and achieved a new personal best of 204.800 and an overall World Cup standing of 22nd.

New Zealand Speed Ski National Champion's Announced.
Only day one of three days of racing could be held at the 2002 Volkl New Zealand Speed Ski Champs due to poor weather conditions at Turoa Ski Area.

Volkl North Island Speed Ski Champs postponed.
The weather beat the event before it started. Three metres of snow in the Mangaehuehu Glacier Basin postpones event.

The North Island Speed Ski Championships is definitely on. Dates are confirmed as Wed 15th - Sat 17th August. We have the Sun 18th to Thu 22nd, as bad weather days.

I FEEL THE NEED FOR SPEED....
After 10 years, the sport of Speed Skiing will be resurrected this year with planning underway to hold the North Island Speedski Championships at Turoa in August.
