04th October 2004
New Zealand Speed Ski Championships Update

Is on, the dates we currently are aimimg for are Wed 6th - Friday 8th. The weather prediction is for mixed weather on Wednesday and fine Thursday, perhaps with some luck Friday will clear as well.

On Sunday a small amount of work was done on the course with the weather since and tommorrows predicted weather the snow conditions should be very workable. the track is in excellent condition. It will take at least a day to prepare to a condition we can train/race. We will be working on the track from Tommorrow Tuesday 5th (providing the ski resort is open and we have access up the high noon t-bar). Wednesday will be a preperation day with some training and possibly a race run.

Please be advised that the access to the top of the track is very icy and access on Tuesday will be restricted to advanced skiers only (you must be very comfortable on a edge) snowboarders will be required to carry a ice axe and crampons are recommended. Access to the lower portion is a little easier and recommended for those who have not been out on the area in the last week.

It is recommended that anyone wishing to help tommorrow meet at MST workshop, Ohakune tommorrow @ 9am or call (06) 385-8851 for info. We will meet @ the Giant cafe @ 12 pm.

There is a racer breifing at MST, 79 Clyde st Ohakune, tommorrow at 6pm. If you cannot make this please check the website for updates. Chris will be available at the lodge from about 8:30 pm tommorrow for a update.
Training and Racing on Wednesday will not start until lunchtime, provided the track is ready.

We are at the mercy of the weather, so any descion will be last minute. Please watch the weather and ski reports we will be working and racing so long as the high noon t-bar is operating and visibility is reasonable.
