SPEED SKIING in 2008
Although no races have been held in New Zealand since 2004, Speed
Ski New Zealand is still actively pursuing support to hold FIS
level events on new and old speed tracks. We were in touch with most ski
areas during the 2007 season with the view to running races.
The Remarkables have agreed in principle to allow us, with the support of Snow Sports New Zealand (SSNZ) to hold the NZS1 National Champs event on mid-station bowl in Shadow Basin. The provisional dates for this event are Thursday 14th - Sunday 17th August 2008.
THE ULTIMATE in UN-POWERED HUMAN ACEIVEMENT
Man and nature combine, a sheer vertical
free fall of ice allows acceleration from 0 - 160 k/ph within
6 seconds.
Imagine it .... The SPEED .... you are
no longer on a journey, you are flying, your accelerator
is a pair of skis, a steep slope, and a perfectly prepared
mountain, and the sheer strength of gravity.
Dressed in a futuristic rubber suit and
wearing a darth vadar style helmet you accelerate faster
than a formula one car, reaching speeds of 140 MPH in 15
seconds.
Suddenly the reality is "You are Speed
Skiing" The development of speed skiing has been sensational,
from a few diehards in the late 1970's, to an internationally
(FIS) recognised sport with competitors in over 15 countries. |
